Opportunities for Adults

Learn, Grow, Connect, Serve

Faith Matters  Held on Sundays at 9:15 a.m., these are provocative and interactive discussions about how faith “fits” into our daily lives. Although you are sure to learn something new, there is no preparation, no homework, no books to read – just show up! And we have delicious cookies.

Sunday Morning Bible Study  Meets between services on Sunday mornings for member-led group scripture study.

Just Breathe A Christian contemplative practice open to all who wish to attend. Usually held on Wednesday evenings for about 45 minutes. No prior experience is needed; just the ability to breathe! You can learn more about Just Breathe in Good Shepherd’s monthly newsletter.

Tuesday Morning Bible Study  Held on Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. we gather around coffee and goodies to read and share the implications of The Word in our daily lives. Members lead the discussion. We welcome you to join us!

Sunday Fellowship Hour Following the late service, all are welcome to gather in the fellowship room to socialize and enjoy food and refreshments provided by various members and groups at Good Shepherd on an alternating, volunteer basis. Four generations of friends and families get together and share stories and friendship.

Adult Learning Opportunities  Your chance to explore the Bible and its message for your life, we periodically hold classes that focus on particular books of the Bible or other topics.

Men’s Breakfast  Good food, good conversation…a great opportunity for men to gather in a spiritually supportive and fun environment! All are welcome. The Men’s Breakfast group meets twice a month at Good Shepherd to enjoy a meal prepared by one of the men, discuss current events and church happenings, and make time for prayer. Free will donations support good causes. In 2017, the men donated funds to the following organizations:

  • Capital Area Council of Churches Emergency Overflow Shelter
  • ELCA Lutheran Disaster Response
  • Albany Maritime Ministry
  • Friends of the William K. Sanford Town Library
  • Capital City Rescue Mission

New Member Gatherings  Held periodically for those interested in becoming members of Good Shepherd. An opportunity to learn more about Christianity, what Lutherans believe, and life at Good Shepherd. If you would like more information about becoming a new member, please contact Pastor Edwina Landry.

Senior Shepherds  Fellowship, fun and spirited sharing for “Young at Heart” senior adults. Activities are varied and reflect the interests of participants.  Enjoy guest speakers, day trips to theaters and museums, craft workshops to benefit the community and volunteer work for community and social service groups.

Book Discussion Group  It’s fun to read. And even more fun to talk about what we read, as we’ve done for 14+ years! This group meets monthly to share their reactions to the latest selection.
